Why collies end up in rescue

Border collies are bred to work all day with a person. Put that brain in a townhouse with eight hours alone and you get fence-running, barking, herding of children and bicycles, and eventually an owner at the end of their rope.

Almost none of the dogs we take in are bad dogs. They are under-employed dogs. Our job is to show them that life can be calmer, then find people who understand what the breed actually needs.

How we work

Every dog goes into a volunteer foster home for assessment, veterinary work and basic manners. We sterilise, vaccinate and microchip before adoption, without exception. Applications include a home visit, and we stay available to adopters for the life of the dog.

If an adoption ever stops working, the dog comes back to us. That promise is permanent.

Governance

We are governed by a volunteer committee, publish annual financials to our members, and issue Section 18A tax certificates for qualifying donations on request.
