Who we are
Our volunteers strive to ensure that every border collie needing a home finds permanent placement, and that owners are capable of dealing with the challenges and demands of living with these immensely active and intelligent dogs.
We are also an invaluable service for owners who, through no fault of their own, can no longer care for their trusted friend. And while a good trained working dog is worth his weight in gold, many that come into our care have not been trained — “you can't teach an old dog new tricks” has been proven wrong in our rehoming. Some of our dogs have moved on to work livestock on farms; others compete successfully in obedience and agility.
Our dogs are kennelled at a private kennel that has been our home for over 15 years, where we have made many improvements. Adoptions include a property check, and every dog is sterilised, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped before going home.
Our goals
- Educate the public about the border collie and its specific needs
- Find adoptive homes for unwanted border collies
- Provide rehabilitation for abused and abandoned collies
- Raise funds to cover sterilisation, kennelling, transport and veterinary costs
- Provide counselling and referral services to border collie owners
Governance & tax status
BCR registered as a non-profit organisation in 1999 — NPO 006 620. We are recognised by SARS as a Public Benefit Organisation, which means donations to BCR are tax deductible and Section 18A receipts are issued on request.
